Cultural Route Cannon Railway line

Important for its railway history, the hiking trail ‘Kanonenbahn’ starts at the rail junction in Bullay, where formerly three lines met: the socalled cannon railway (Kanonenbahn) Berlin – Koblenz – Trier-Metz, the side line Bullay – Traben-Trarbach and the famous Moselle line from Bullay to Trier, nicknamed ‘little boozer’s train’ (Saufbähnchen).

The hiking trail shows different aspects of its regional railway history. First it follows the ‘Kanonenbahn’, then the side line to Traben-Trarbach and finally the tracks of the ‘Saufbähnchen’.

Furthermore this hiking trail includes culturally important sights: e.g. the Marienburg, the panoramic tower and memorial cemetery Prinzenkopf. The trail from Bullay to Reil and back on the other Moselle side with its villages Pünderich, Briedel and Zell covers a distance of about 25 km.

In case you don’t want to walk the whole trail in one day, you can conveniently return by train or bus to your departure point from almost any place. On your way vintners and restaurants welcome you for a rest.
